Harini Amarasuriya has been appointed as Sri Lanka’s 16th Prime Minister, making her the first woman in this role since Sirimavo Bandaranaike in 2000. An academic-turned-politician, she studied Sociology at Delhi University’s Hindu College from 1991 to 1994. Her appointment is expected to bolster ties between India and Sri Lanka.
