Veteran CPM leader Sitaram Yechury passed away at 72 after battling a prolonged illness. Treated at AIIMS in New Delhi for an acute respiratory tract infection, he was in critical condition. Born in Chennai, Yechury served as CPI(M) General Secretary since 2015 and was known for his activism during the Emergency and tenure in Rajya Sabha.
