Revenue-starved Punjab govt slashes subsidised power tariff, increases VAT on fuels

To alleviate debt and enhance state revenue, the Punjab government has increased VAT on petrol by 61 paise per litre and diesel by 92 paise per litre. The subsidised power tariff of Rs 3 per unit for domestic consumers with up to a 7 kW load has also been revoked.
