The Himachal Pradesh government, under CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has approved a bill revoking pension benefits for state legislators disqualified under the anti-defection law. This legislative move aims to deter defection and preserve democratic values. Recently, six Congress MLAs were disqualified for cross-voting in Rajya Sabha elections, temporarily reducing the party’s strength. The Congress government in the state had to grapple with a crisis as its strength had reduced to 34 legislators.
