Days before the collapse of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue at Rajkot Fort, a state public works department engineer had warned naval authorities about its frail state. The letter cited rusted nuts and bolts caused by exposure to rain and salty winds. The statue, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi, faced complaints from tourists and residents.
