The Bengal government responded to doctors’ protests by transferring RG Kar Medical College’s principal Suhrita Paul and three other officials, following the August 9 rape-murder of a junior doctor. Paul will now serve as principal of Barasat Medical College. The decision came after continued unrest and a march by doctors to the health department’s headquarters, demanding accountability and safety improvements.
