B’desh mulls removing ‘secularism’, ‘socialism’ from constitution

Bangladesh’s Attorney General proposed significant changes to the Constitution during a High Court hearing. He seeks to remove ‘secularism’ and ‘socialism’ as state principles and repeal the amendment criminalizing unconstitutional regime change. He argues that this provision, punishable by death, stifles democratic change and disrespects the recent mass protests that ousted the previous government.
