Overruling a 1967 judgment, a Supreme Court bench ruled that the conversion of a minority institution into a university doesn’t automatically negate its minority status. While not deciding on Aligarh Muslim University’s (AMU) status, the court defined criteria for determining minority institution status, leaving it to a lower bench to rule on AMU’s case.
