Rebels set ablaze the tomb of Hafez al-Assad, the former Syrian president and father of Bashar al-Assad, in Qardaha, Latakia province. The mausoleum, also containing the remains of other Assad family members, was destroyed following the rebels’ swift capture of key cities and Assad’s subsequent departure from power, ending the family’s five-decade rule.
