Bombay high court’s Nagpur bench recently ruled that intercourse with a wife under 18 is rape even if consensual, sentencing the convict to 10 years. The decision reinforces that marital rape exceptions under the IPC don’t apply to minors. The 2019 case involves a minor victim coerced into a sexual relationship and makeshift marriage.
