In the Maharashtra assembly elections, 85% of candidates lost their deposits, totaling Rs 3.5 crore—the highest in 10 years. The MVA suffered the most losses, while no BJP candidate lost a deposit. Smaller parties like VBA, BSP, and MNS also saw widespread deposit forfeitures. One independent candidate argued for retaining a portion of the deposit, despite losing.
