The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act has been extended for six months in eight districts of Nagaland and three districts of Arunachal Pradesh. Declared as ‘disturbed areas’ by the Union Home Ministry, this extension is effective from October 1, 2024. The AFSPA grants armed forces the authority to search, arrest, and open fire if necessary to maintain public order.
