An eviction drive in Assam’s Kamrup district turned violent as a mob clashed with police, resulting in two deaths and injuries to over 20 police personnel. The conflict arose when Bengali-speaking Muslim villagers, previously evicted, returned to the land. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma blamed Congress for escalating the situation. The deceased have been identified as Jubahir Ali and Haider Ali.
