The Maharashtra government announced a switch to the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for state employees just a day after the Union cabinet approved it. UPS offers 50% of the average salary from the last 12 months as a pension, benefiting 23 lakh central employees and potentially 90 lakh if fully adopted by all states.
