Govind Mohan, a 1989-batch IAS officer from the Sikkim cadre, has been appointed as the new Union home secretary, following the tenure of Ajay Kumar Bhalla. Currently serving as the culture secretary, Mohan will take charge on August 22. One of his immediate challenges will be ensuring security for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir elections.
