Pakistani authorities increased airport scrutiny due to a rise in beggars posing as tourists traveling to the Middle East. Reports indicated that 90% of detained beggars abroad were of Pakistani origin. Immigration staff have removed passengers from flights, while UAE authorities have begun rejecting visa applications from Pakistanis without sufficient funds to be deemed ‘genuine visitors.’
